Visual Illusions: Light-Composition Technique

visual illusion - light room

- Room volume increase: Hard and even lighting of the off-road surfaces

- Room volume decrease: Lower the brightness of the off-road surfaces.

- Room stretching and narrowing: Light up the walls perpendicular towards the direction of “stretching”; light rays propagation towards the “stretching”.

- Room division: Sharp brightness increase in some parts using the color contrast.

- Wall relief: Brightness increase of separate parts of walls to make the light spots, the rhythmic wall lighting with the light of two equal sources.

Using verticals in wall decoration visually increases the height of the room. The same effect stays if the vertical is made by the vertically stretched paintings, by the vertical form of lamps, by vertical lines of casing fabrics. The strength of visual effect here is influenced by the phenomenon of vertical lines exaggeration – the vertical line seems longer than the horizontal one though they are the same. The interior with vertical lines in its décor seems higher than one with horizontal or diagonal plane division.

If you try to “stretch” the living-room along the source of day-light i.e. parallel to the wall with the window you should use the fabrics with pronounced horizontal stripes for the adjacent furniture and a horizontal pattern on a carpet. Light objects against dark background enlarge the room. Checkered and striped pieces filled with a return pattern seem larger than the same in size but monotonous ones.
